The 10 Best Songs From Belmont University

Belmont University—it’s the Rodney Dangerfield of schools.

Say Belmont, and people think horse race.

Ask anyone to name a school in Nashville, and you’ll get Vanderbilt.

Bring up the best music programs, and you’ll hear about Juilliard or Berklee or USC.

But quietly (at least as far as the general public is concerned), the relatively anonymous Christian school in the capital of Tennessee has produced quite the soundtrack.

As proof, here are the 10 best songs from Belmont University.

Of course, there are the usual disclaimers:

  • Best means most popular.
  • Best is defined by one dude.
  • There’s a one-song limit per artist/songwriter.

Let’s roll, in chronological order.

“She’s in Love with the Boy” by Trisha Yearwood (1991)

Back around the time when Belmont upgraded from a college to a university, former student Yearwood released this classic.

“I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack (2000)

About a decade later, another alum hit it big with this crossover country pop track.

“Mud on the Tires” by Brad Paisley (2004)

Paisley, a product of the music business program, needs no introduction.

“Good Girl” by Carrie Underwood (2012)

Underwood is from Oklahoma, but Ashley Gorley—one of the most successful songwriters of his generation—is a Belmont guy who has gifted us tons of hits like this one.

“Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line (2012)

Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley met at Belmont and later showed the country that even kids who attend a dry campus know how to have a good time.

“Talk Too Much” by COIN (2016)

A few years later, a handful of Belmont products reminded the music world that Nashville can do pop, too.

“Take It All Back” by Judah & the Lion (2016)

Around the same time, another Belmont outfit blended genres to create this alternative jam.

“Two High” by Moon Taxi (2017)

Years after forming at the university, Moon Taxi cracked the charts with this single.

“Austin” by Dasha (2023)

Dasha might have attended Belmont for a few brief moments, but that still counts.

“Your Place” by Ashley Cooke (2023)

Finally, there’s Ashley Cooke, who several years after graduating found her way to the Billboard Hot 100 with this tune.

Special note for Indian people: Belmont University also has a College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, a College of Sciences & Mathematics, a College of Medicine, a College of Business, and a College of Law.
