Apparently, part of modern blogging is telling your own story. You know, something people can connect with, no matter how non-Hollywood it is. Thankfully, in the case of Who is Amol Shrikhande?, a few songwriters have already answered the question.
“Born in the U.S.A.” by Bruce Springsteen
As the Boss said:
I was born in the U.S.A.
Milwaukee, to be exact. What does that mean? I know way more about grunge music, the NFL, and Abraham Lincoln than anything else. Please don’t ask me about India, particularly not in Hindi—I might answer in Spanish.
“Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2” by Pink Floyd
Somehow I missed the insight delivered by Roger Waters:
We don’t need no education
We don’t need no thought control
By going to school incessantly, I became another brick in the wall, otherwise known as a medical doctor.
“Steady, As She Goes” by the Raconteurs
With a career in hand, then came the wife, a couple kids, and the anonymous suburban life, predictably in one of those places where no one actually wants to live (Rochester, New York). I was, after all, just following the advice of Jack White and Brendan Benson:
Find yourself a girl, and settle down
Live a simple life in a quiet town
Steady as she goes
“Midlife Crisis” by Faith No More
Of course, a standard life and a decent living don’t always come with purpose and fulfillment. So in 2021, I cut back significantly on doctoring to make time for the world of blogging. Stated another way, I realized the prophecy of Mike Patton, Roddy Bottum, Mike Bordin, and Billy Gould:
Sense of security
Like pockets jingling
Midlife crisis
“Creep in a T-Shirt” by Portugal. The Man
And finally, you might be wondering how the second career as a blogger is going. Two things—the downshift in income and the change in wardrobe—come to mind, captured perfectly by John Baldwin Gourley and Danger Mouse:
Just a loser in a T-shirt, jeans, I don’t f**cking care
