You Broke My Heart, Buffalo

I know I shouldn’t care

About men playing a game

But despite midlife and all this gray hair

It matters—it matters all the same

This was supposed to be the year

We put the ’90s anguish behind

The pinnacle was oh so near

But sadly, I guess I was blind

Blind to the truth in Western New York

That we’ve never won a single thing

Aside from that Golden Snowball Award

Sorry, but that doesn’t have the same ring

Where I live we know about loss

Population, football games, industry, and more

Is it so much to ask that one day you’ll toss

A bone our way on the Lake Erie shore

Of course I know that I can just wait

Or grow up instead and find a new way

But you Buffalo, you are my fate

So go Bills—I love you anyway
