Be Thankful for These Certainties in Life

When the holidays roll around each year, it’s worth pausing and doing what the occasions were designed for you to do—give thanks. You know, thanks for food, family, job, money, and all that. And this year, I would like to add to the list. In an uncertain world, it makes sense to be grateful for these certainties.

1

You will receive advice from people who have no idea what they’re talking about.

2

People will like nothing more than when other people agree with them.

3

Certain humans will think their language and culture is more meaningful than everyone else’s.

4

The same humans will create categories that are categorically false.

5

The smartest people will occasionally be surprisingly dumb.

6

Money will be a made-up thing that inspires obsession.

7

The money-obsessed will make things increasingly complicated to facilitate their ability to skim off the top.

8

Lawyers will be appreciative of the aforementioned complicators.

9

Nice will remain generally synonymous with doesn’t make a ton of money.

10

Talking loudly will correlate poorly with being right.

11

Older people will think they’re smarter than younger people, even if they’re not.

12

Good marketing will compensate for bad art.

13

Good art won’t compensate for bad marketing.

14

Some people will have more than others, at least materially speaking.

15

Ancient texts will seem more important than they are.

16

The truth will hurt.

17

The news will make the world seem worse than it is.

18

Earth will remain a cosmic speck (hopefully).

19

Writers—using either their brains or AI—will overcrowd servers with nonsense.

20

This blog will continue, whether the servers like it or not.

Happy Holidays!

  1. I attest to point number 11! The younger people certainly are more world smart and techno savvy. However we may have our strengths as well 😊.
